Buying Jewelry 101 - Guide to Necklaces Lengths

Ever gotten confused about the length when buying necklaces online?

Here's a useful guide.
  1. Collar - Length 12" - 14"
Three or more strands of beads which lie snuggly on the middle of the necklace. They compliment boat neck, V-neck and off-the shoulder clothing.

  2. Choker- Length 14" - 16"
Compliments any neckline and can be worn with formal and casual clothing. This is a good necklace length for a child.

  3. Princess - Length 17" - 19"
Suited with high and plunging neckline clothing. Perfect length to support a pendant.

  4. Matinee - Length 20" - 25"
Ideal with casual or business attire. Also suited to long sundresses and formal gowns. The extra length gives the wearer a sense of luxury and confidence.

  5. Opera - Length 26" - 36"
Worn as a single strand or doubled to create a choker. It can also be knotted. Perfect for high or crew necklines also.

  6. Rope - Length 37" or longer
Elegant and sexy. Can be knotted, doubled over and even slung over the shoulder. Clasps can be strategically placed to allow the necklace to be broken down into shorter length necklace and even bracelets.

  7. Lariat - Length 48" or longer
This is not joined at the ends but tied in a knot or wrapped around the neck.
My favorite style is the Princess as you can see in most of my necklaces in my shop. How about you?

Lollipops

It's been a long time since I suck on a lollipop. I remembered that it was always a treat to buy a Chupa Chups from the lollipop stand near the cashiers. The lollipops were wrapped with brightly yellow & red colors.

So you can imagine how thrilled I was when I found these charms! They are so brightly colored and adorably cute! They are Chupa Chups licensed merchandise charms (not some cheap fake goods). I only managed to grab 8 and I am keeping 1 (or maybe 2) for myself!

Available in yellow, orange, blue, purple, clear & pink colors. I will list them progressively.. Do check them out!

Mellow Yellow

I have these lemonade chalcedony for quite some time now but never got the inspiration to work on them. Today, I made a necklace & earrings set. My very first set! What do you think? I must say, I hate taking photos of anything yellow, for some reason, the photos never turn out as great as I want to. *sulk*.

Hopefully you will be able to see the beauty in these jewels through these photos as I see them in real life.

Etsy FrontPage - Owl Necklace

WooHoo! I made it to Etsy Frontpage this weekend (Saturday). I was really thrilled to find out that I have made some sales during my short holiday break to Hong Kong... And totally excited to know that it was due to the FrontPage feature by Etsy of my Owl Necklace. Here's the "frontpage" that my item was featured.

My I Love OWL necklace has been one of my best sellers. It features a cute sterling silver owl charm where it's solid (3D) and its wings can be flapped :D

Crazy Week

This week has been crazy for me as I just came back from Hong Kong on a work trip and I will be off again on Sunday to Japan again for work... To some, it is always great to have the chance to travel.. I do agree.. but to travel for work is no fun.. even though the ticket and the accommodation is free, more often of not, you are traveling alone and you tend to have more work after the trip. This is because you will try to have tons of meetings and discussion to meet up with people during your stay there (given the short span of time).. thus all the paperwork will have to wait till after you are back or after office hours when you are slogging away at the hotel.. *sob sob*

How I wish I can just quit my job and start my own business.. that has always been my dream and something that I wanted to do.. but my hubby has been nagging me to just stay with my job given the economy downturn and people losing their jobs.. I should (and I AM) fortunate to still have mine.

Sigh.. maybe I will wait another year or so.. build up my shop and regular stream of customers..

Oh... even though I have been traveling.. I sneak some time to do up my latest necklace.. Ain't it cute?!

Botero Inspired : Fat Tree Necklace

The start of the week always makes a Grumpy me. So I am always look around for things that would cheer me up. Like this Fat Tree necklace that I made!

This necklace is inspired by Botero. Have you heard of him? He is one of my favorite artists and I always describe him as the painter who loves to paint fat people! :D Here's one of his works! Besides painting, he sculpts too. So you can see how ecstatic I went when I stumble upon the brass fat tree charm!! It's so cute in its own way! Just like me.. lol!

I first knew about Botero via an exhibition in Singapore. One look at his pictures and I fell in love with his colorful paintings and fat men & ladies... Even the fruits in his pictures are fat too!

Lazy Saturday.....

It's been quite a tiring and long week due to the market activities, I decided to take it SLOW this weekend. My hubby is off to his game today and I had the whole day to myself.. I had it all planned.
1. Mail my items at the Post Office
2. Go to the shop to exchange my boxes (they gave me the wrong sizes)
3. Check out the charm & bead shops

At the charm & bead shops, I shopped like crazy! Haha.. had to control myself a little just to make sure that I do not overspent. I love charms.. I hope that's reflected in my works.

After the long day running around, I manage to get home, made some new jewelry (can't wait to take photos & list them) and take a nap.

Although, I managed to list one... I love this charm and the concept of making it into a necklace! What do you think of it?

Cherry Blossom Craze

I love cherry blossoms... Not sure whether anyone else feels the same about them.. but I think they are one of the most beautiful flowers in the world.. It's a pity I have not seen them in person.. I don't get to see them in Singapore... I just have not gotten myself together to fly to Japan in April.

Nevertheless, I have create a few pieces inspired by the beautiful cherry blossoms.
